Understanding Mental Wellness

A community talk on on mental wellness presented by Mr Kelvin Teng, Assistant Psychologist at Activity Hub @ Pelangi Village, Singapore Association for Mental Health.

If you have concerns about yourself or someone close, this talk will empower you with knowledge on mental health issues and coping strategies. The talk is also relevant to those seeking information about resources available in Singapore.

The speaker will also cover how family rejection of one’s sexuality can impact his/her mental well being and how one’s mental state can influence his/her sexual behaviours. Coping strategies to improve mental health wellness will also be covered.

About Singapore Association for Mental Health
Singapore Association for Mental Health was established in December 1968 to promote mental wellness and to empower people with mental illness in rebuilding their lives. It is a voluntary welfare organisation (non-government and non-profit), which seeks to promote the social and mental well-being of the people of Singapore. More specifically, the organisation aims to promote mental health, prevent mental illness, improve the care and rehabilitation of persons with mental illness, and to reduce the misconception and social stigma that surrounds mental illness.

About the speaker
Mr Kelvin Teng is presently the Assistant Psychologist at Activity Hub@Pelangi Village, Singapore Association for Mental Health. He has been working with destitute persons with mental illnesses and social problems since 2006. His work involves conducting group sessions such as Psycho-education as well as psychological assessments and interventions for individuals. He has also researched on the effects of cognitive training on employment outcomes and conducted training on topics such as Anger Management.

Mr Teng gained his B.A. in Psychology from University of California, Los Angeles in 2005. He is also a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP) registered with the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association, USA since 2009.
