Why must always use US as topic headlines ????
Why? Because we make interesting topics? Because we draw attention more? Because people are interested in us?
Why must news headlines always use us as topics and headlines.
In this article, it was actually reporting about thai people selling illegal thai lottery tickets at Golden Mile. Then the police raid and catch the illegal sellers and buyers.
And one of the buyers happen to be a transgender. So they use this transgender as the headline, making the words bigger.
So that it will catch attention of people and make people want to read this news.
Actually, the transgender headline could have been left out and instead use the big words of illegal lottery or what. Cause after all, the big news here is not about the transgender, but about the illegal lottery wah.
Yet because of what we are, we are always getting attention. Somemore it’s always the same ugly calling of us ‘ren yao’. Human demon.
We are no demon. We are just another human. Born this way by no choice or fault of ours.
Please let us off and let us have some peace…………….we just want to live a normal peaceful life, finding our own dreams………

I stopped buying Straits Times last year.
They need to know their editorial standards are slipping and always cannot give one-sided jaded and constantly bad impression on TS people.
I read news over Internet, I post jobs + advertise over Internet. Where got SPH?
February 5th, 2010 at 5:00 AMHmmm…
Double standard…
On one hand, they are looking for us (TS) for interview and publish our story so that the public can be more understanding towards us.
On the other hand, they are the one who published bad story on us and call us names…
SPH…. haiz….
February 5th, 2010 at 11:56 PMIt is probably written by 2 different reporters.. One is concern abt TS, the other don’t. And there are probably more than 1 editor for the same newspaper? If really want to investigate, has to check which reporter team is handling that column and send the complain direct to that team.
February 6th, 2010 at 10:19 AMWell, I think we need to be clear that all newspapers are the same. They will sensationalise anything they see will sell the papers.
Only writers will determine what they want to feature thus the feature writers look for different things to write about.
We are a bunch of sensational people thus people like to sensationalise. If we chose to do such things and get ourselves caught for it, then we should not blame the media.
This is just my opinion.
Thanks.
March 4th, 2010 at 1:45 PMNewpapers are motivated by two things, Journalist who wants to get the news out and profit margins.
April 10th, 2010 at 5:06 PMIt used to be from the subscribers, but now, the buisness model thanks to Rupert Murdoch (now on his second wife, and owns 3 out of 4 media sources around the world) is dependant on the advertisers, and in this age of sound bites, people are only concern with matters that directly affect them, or they can lie to themselves that it does, and when I say people I mean americans, because thats what the main market is.
Gao please get rid of the above comment, typed out of context, glanced article though US means United States
