Re-Skin of SgB

Post by ah^gao » Wed 26 Jun 2013, 6:41 pm

theme.jpg
Been a long time since SgB had any major change to her appearance.
I seek members help to give some suggestion.

SgB is a combination of Wordpress and phpBB3.

I hope member can provide valuable suggestion as in what color scheme or background to make a change to SgB overall look and feel.

Just look through Wordpress theme. Once we finalise, I can twit it into phpBB3 theme.

NOT that the present SgB skin colour and design is jaded ..... not into designing so can't offer ideas. But am sure something creative will surface.

Meet a member at Pink Dot event.
She mentioned that SgB theme should be updated. Been a LONG TIME!

LoLx~!

Yesterday was going through some opensource CMS and bridges. I still think going for a CMS with blogging and foruming module will be the best was to enhance members' experience while surfing SgB.

Got to spend more time installing and running test on my local server to see the feasibility of such.

Meanwhile, re-skin to give SgB a fresh look will be much easier and pressing issue in my to-do-list!

Just some suggestions:
Colors: shades of solid purple - just use for highlights and not main colour
Background: very light beige, asian skin tone, somewhere leaning towards warm brown instead of yellow
Logo: masculinise the butterfly a little more??

Play of gradient is so passé but given that it hasn't been updated for a long time, it could be popular then. For inclusivity of all transgender (transmen and transwomen), can we downplay the tones of pink pleaseeee~?

I'm not good with CMS or wordpress so i can't comment much on which programming tool is best, as long as the interface is friendly enough for the people on the forum to access.

If you need help with the designing bit, i might be able to help if it's at a comfortable pace.

I like the new theme ah gao.
U can consider baby blue / light sky blue.

If its in the reddish zone, a lilac might do ok. Not for the whole page, just tinge. :)

Again, color is very subjective. Tats for me. :)

Hi thesons,

When founding SgB, its much easier for me to ask a gal out than to date a guy to gather information!!!

But now I have met many guy friends through the years of various events and also with the encouragement from many guys that SgB should gear towards FtM. It should be more appropriate to re-skin SgB, to give a look and feel that is more inclusive of MtF and FtM.

Don't have to worry about the script coding. I'll take care of that. What I'm weak is always the color scheme.

A better way is to advise me a color scheme so I can do a mock-up for preview. No dateline.

I re-skin it based on your current layout and what needs to be essentially highlighted.
The added ad space on the left is for any featured ads or community events for added visibility.

I also felt that there should be archiving of articles as well as inclusion of tags for easy classifications. And also calendar of events, e,g outings, community events that can be easily access to.

I found the highlight used (fuchsia), a little too feminise. But i'll be playing around with more colour themes and let's just see how everyone is taking this layout. Yea?

The members are all quiet, and after when the page is revamped, these people will start grumbling, "aiyo, why this colour", "why this interface", "why so ugly", "why so girly", "old one better".

Please speak up if you want to see the change you wish to have. Don't complain only after.

TYVM.

Well, I said my piece, but no response. I won't complain later because of the volunteering effort you guys put in and we should appreciate that. I'm just not comfortable with the black butterfly. Any other coloured butterfly signifies rebirth, but not black.

Thanks.
