Updating of SgB Forum and Creating a WP-Bridge

Post by ah^gao » Mon 22 Oct 2012, 8:48 pm

Hi Members,

I know I had been slagging for almost a year on the technical maintenance of SgB. Been seriously busy with my heavy work load.

Due to the recent heavy spam attack, I have really got to get it solve.

In the next few days (hopefully), I will be updating SgB Forum Platform from phpBB3.0.6 to phpBB3.0.11.

I had updated the portal blog from Wordpress 3.4.1 to 3.4.2. I have also found a bridge that can synchronise user from phpBB3 to Wordpress, vise-versa, known as "WP phpBB Bridge", which can be found >> http://www.e-xtnd.it/wp-phpbb-bridge/

With this new bridge, user from the Forum can also post/comment in the Blog.

Here's the plan:
1.) pre-load current SgB web into localhost.
2.) set-up and upgrade from phpBB3.0.6 to 3.0.11 in localhost.
3.) if everything goes well, upgrading will be done via web on actual SgB host.
4.) Viola~!

A few things to note during the upgrading.
1.) page might run.
2.) SgB theme might look weird.
3.) some function might not work.

The above will require another few days to iron out (hopefully, again...)

Once I can get the Forum upgraded and full functional running, then I'll do the bridge, but that's for sub-sequent post.

Meanwhile, do hang-on with me on the spam. I sincerely apologies on behalf of all SgB Admin and Moderators.

Updating of phpBB3.0.6 to phpBB3.0.11 completed.

Member please assist to check/browse through any error that you might find and report it back here.

Next, there is a new function to log newly registered member to a specific group for moderation till they hit a minimum of approved post.

This new setting is in respect to nicol3's suggestion in viewtopic.php?f=41&t=6216

Will look into it clearly before activation. Don't wish to screw up the current user.

Also, reading up more in the WP-Bridge thingy. Hopefully can get it installed and fully operation within this week.

Stay Tune~!

My bad...
While battling spam, I had change the admin email to info[at]sgbutterfly.org but didn't update the system. Now should be OK.

In future, any contact to the admin, kindly use the "Contact" at the top navigation. Thank You~!
