Spambot countermeasures

Post by ah^gao » Tue 30 Oct 2012, 12:08 pm

Change the Spambot countermeasures by means of Q&A for new member registration.

Hope it will ease the spam-bot from auto registering.
But human spam... that's the difficult one... LoLx~!

OK... recently had been running through all the user, group and forum permission setting and I tweet a little to enhance the forum settings.

WITH EFFECT FROM 18 FEB 2013, ALL NEWLY REGISTERED MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO CREATE ONE (1) APPROVED NEW THREAD IN THE MEMBER INTRO SECTION IN ORDER TO GAIN ACCESS TO ALL OTHER SECTION, AS A SPAMMING AND LURKERS COUNTER MEASURE.

Daniel, I think the measures worked for the better. Now more members are putting up introductions, its like killing 2 birds with one stone. Thanks.

I'm not sure if many are like me, got a bit put off by one liner intros? Perhaps we can encourage people to share a bit more, after all they are here to make friends and interact. Something like a guideline may be good enough.

Just a suggestion.

Possible to extend the 10 character rule to 4 lines for intro subforum?

Not a standard function for phpBB3.
Will sniff around for a mod script. No promise.

After the implementation of ONE (1) post required in order to view other section, the board seems to be more organised and more people are coming out, slowly.

But as I browsed through SgB data, many did ONE post and *poof* ~ disappear!!! Its because they had gain access to other section??

Planning to increase the minimum post to 5 and throw all the ONE post member back into the criteria before having access to the rest of the section. I will monitor for the remaining month.

The 1 post rule does help to get more members to participate and share.
Thanks for continually improving sgB, Daniel.
